Nick visit - Day 4
Today was all about going to the movies. We didn't do much during the day itself. We got a late start since we stayed up late. The main event for today was going to see Live Free or Die Hard in the evening. Nick had been to the Mann's Chinese Theater during his last visit, but he'd never actually seen a movie there. Conveniently enough, the new Die Hard flick was playing there.
We got to the theater an hour early to secure tickets and get some food. The crowds on Hollywood Blvd. are starting to pick up since it's summer time. And to please such a growing number of people there must be plenty of costumed characters out in effect. We saw a couple of Elmos, some Tarzan-esque stripper guy, Darth Vader and a Stormtrooper, Marilyn Monroe and so on. L claims she saw a 6 foot tall Yoda, but I didn't see him.
After we got the tickets, we crossed the street to get some Baja Fresh. A few burritos and couple of tacos later, we headed to the theater. The Chinese Theater is actually a really nice theater. The decor on the inside is fantastic. The colors, the ornamentation, it all helps create that sense of wonder that makes you feel like you're not just seeing a movie, you are experiencing something. The movie, itself, was entertaining. It was everything a summer popcorn flick needed to be. Explosions, fights, one liners and completely unrealistic use of technology to further the plot. We left satisfied.
Before heading back to the car, we walked around the front of the theater for a little while looking at the foot and hand prints of the different stars. L made it her mission to find Brad Pitt's recently added slab o' cement. At first we couldn't find it and she seemed a tad disappointed. I encouraged her to ask the theater usher. He pointed her in the right direction and it was mission accomplished. The only thing left was to head home and call it a night.
