Speed Racer

At the heart of this movie is a solid story about family. That's what made it work for me. The visuals were definitely something to experience and paid tribute to the aesthetics and devices that make anime what it is. L called it out when were driving home. She said that the thing that made it work was that the drama was played relatively straight forward even though the look and feel of the world was over the top. Ultimately, it's a live action cartoon with a solid message about the bond of a family.
